Comments: The Putnam, with its dramatically stepped case, is an art deco classic and one of the more desirable Hamiltons amongst collectors. Although not particularly scarce, the Putnam is not an easy watch to find. Due to its appeal to collectors, few come to market. In addition, its severe stepped case makes them prone to considerable wear and subsequently, many Putnam's may have been discarded over time due to case damage. Putnam's in excellent condition are very scarce.

The Putnam was introduced in 1932 in a Wadsworth 14K gold-filled case containing the 17-jewel 987 movement. In 1934, the Putnam was offered with a choice of either the 19-jewel 979 movement, or the 17-jewel 987 movement. 1934 was the only year that offered the 979 movement and in fact, both 1935 and 1936 only offered the 987 17-jewel movement.
